Surf Museum Goes Solar

Surf Museum Goes Solar

SANTA CRUZ, CA (February 21, 2013)  -- The Santa Cruz Surfing Museum has gone solar thanks to a generous donation by Sandbar Solar and Electric of Santa Cruz. Installation of solar panels last weekend on the west facing roof will save up to 80% of the museum's annual electric bill. The value of the project is $10,000 and was the brainchild of Scott Laskey, owner of Sandbar.

Laskey was first concerned for the museum when he learned of its potential closure in 2009. "The Surfing Museum is an icon of Santa Cruz surfing history and I knew then I wanted to help" said Laskey. As a surfer, father of two, with surfers as employees, Laskey said he wanted to preserve the surfing legacy for future generations.

His opportunity came last spring when he installed a solar project for Doug Thorne, a member of the original Santa Cruz Surfing Club and current member of the Santa Cruz Surfing Club Preservation Society (SCSCPS).

Santa Cruz Warriors Detail Parking Plans Prior to Opener

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Sunday's home opener for the Santa Cruz Warriors, an NBA D-League team, is creating excitement on the central coast. The new arena's construction is moving along, but it's the parking that has many concerned. The City of Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz Warriors want to ensure that all fans are properly prepared and aware of the best options for game-day parking.

As December 23rd is one of the busiest shopping days in Downtown Santa Cruz, the City is urging fans to park at either Depot Park (Center St. near the Pacific Ave Traffic Circle), Lot 3 (Cedar/Church), or the Municipal Wharf, with prices ranging from $1 per hour to $10 all day.  In addition, 300 spaces are available in the County Government Center Parking Lot on Ocean Street, free of charge.
