Councilmember Retirees Could Put More Into CALPERS

Tuesday's Capitola city council meeting focuses on whether to change the pension system to require council retirees to pay 100 percent of their retirement benefit or give councilmembers who retire the option to pay.

City staff is leaving the decision up to the council. Depending on the decision councilmembers could take a pay cut; currently they get $500 a month.

Watsonville councilmembers already do this.
