Salinas Animal Shelter asking people to adopt cats or dogs, to make room for other rescues

Salinas, Calif.-Today we found out folks at the SPCA for Monterey County took over 5 adult cats and 1dog from the Salinas Animal Shelter. As Central Coast News told you on Thursday the shelter was at full capacity and needed to have at least 12 dogs and 3 cats adopted ASAP. Otherwise, the shelter was going to have to humanely euthanize some cats and dogs.

Well, even though they have had a little help from the SPCA and other non-profits have reached out to help, many animals still need a home! So, if you are looking to expand your family with a furry friend please consider adopting from the Salinas Animal Shelter. These animals really need a good home!

Salinas Animal Shelter: 831.758.7446 they are located at 144 Hitchcock Rd in Salinas.  They are open Tuesday- Saturday from 12pm to 5pm.

Parrot Abandoned at Grocery Store in Capitola

Parrot Abandoned at Grocery Store in Capitola

Capitola police want to know who left a red parrot in the Trader Joe's parking lot last week.

The man pulled up in a brown van to the parking lot on Clares St. in the afternoon on May 15, and put the Macaw on top of the shopping carts in front of the store, then drove away.

Witnesses called 911 and police were able to get it to come to one with a large glove.  The bird was taken to Native Animal Rescue on 17th Ave in Live Oak.   Later, the bird was transfered to For the Birds, a San Jose avian veterinary hospital.

The red parrot was not in good shape.  Experts said it was thin, dirty and only about 40 years old, or mid-life.

It also had signs of abuse, scrapes on its face and feet and gum stuck in its feathers.
